Waste & Recycling
It is the home owner's responsibility to purchase a 240 litre wheelie bin if the property does not already have one.
Bins are available from local hardware stores BJ Trading and Barkly Hardware for around $100 (shop around to get the best deal some places carry spare parts too).

If additional bins are required, or if you require your bin/s to be emptied more that once a week, please contact the Tennant Creek Town Council on 8962 0000.
On Collection Day
- Make sure your bin is out before 6.30am on collection day
- Place your bin as close to the edge of the road as possible
- Make sure it is facing the right way
- Do not place your bin near parked vehicles, or in front of fire hydrants
- Park your bin back on your property after it has been emptied
A few don'ts
- Please do not put hot ashes, acids, sharp or heavy objects in the bin
- Please do not put separate bags or boxes beside the bin for collection as they will not be collected
- Please do not overfill the bin so that the lid will not close
It is your responibility to maintain your bin in a hygienic condition. To help prevent unpleasant smells and prevent flies being attracted to an breeding in your bin you can;
- Wrap all meat, fish, dairy product waste, fruit and vegetable scraps in newspaper then put that inside an old plastic shopping bag and tie securely before putting in the wheelie bin.
- Hose the bin out thoroughly at least once a month.
The Council's rubbish dump operations are contracted to the Julalikari Council.
Currently it is free for residents to use, and is open 7 days a week from 7.30am to 5pm.
The dump is located at lot 1006 Fazeldeen Road
The dump currently handles 14,000 cubic metres of waste annually, and some recycling is conducted at the dump i.e. aluminium cans.

There is a Waste Oil Recycling Centre loacted at the Tennant Creek Town Council depot on Maloney street. Everyone is welcome to use the Centre.

Twice a year, usually April and September, the Council will conduct a bulk rubbish collection for residential properties which are a good way to get rid of large garden waste, old furniture, fridges etc.
Collections will be advertised in the local papers.
