The Tennant Creek Fire Department are authorised to safely burn off grass on private properties.

Please do not try to burn off by yourself as something you may think is easy may turn into a disaster.

To arrange for the Fire Department to burn grass on your property, or make a complaint about unauthorised burning phone (08) 8962 4400.

Flammable undergrowth is a big concern for the Tennant Creek Town Council expecially in summer.

Grass, weeds and other vegetation may become flammable in normal seasonal conditions if it is not removed.

Inspections are carried out through the year of the town to find property's that are a potential fire hazard.

A notice will be sent to the occupier/owner of the property to remove all flammable undergrowth within 14 days.

If the occupier/owner does not comply with the notice Council will enter the property and carry out work required at the cost of the occuiper/owner.

The Tennant Creek Town Council can clear land at a cost to the land owner.

As required under the Weeds Management Act, the Tennant Creek Town Council has introduced the Weed Management Plan 2004 - 2009.

Residents within the Town boundary are required to remove the following weeds from their properties:

Inspections on properties will be carried out twice per year as required and removal notices served.
