Papulu Apparr-Kari Language Centre
Papula Apparr-Kari Language and Culture Centre was established in 1987 and is run by the Papulu Apparr-Kari Aboriginal Corporation.
The Centre aims to improve the knowledge, understanding and awareness of the 16 traditional Aboriginal languages in the Barkly Region.
The Barkly Region extends from Borroloola 700kms to the North to Barrow Creek 220kms South.
Papula Apparr-Kari employs over 100 people through a Community Development Employment Program (CDEP) and is involved in cross cultural training aimed at helping employers, government departments and other bodies understand the Aboriginal Traditional way of life.
Their work includes print, photos and video.
An interpreting service and language classes for schools are also available.
