Nyinkka the Goanna

According to Warumungu legend, the town of Tennant Creek grew up around the home of a spiny tailed goanna called Nyinkka - a powerful ancestral being.

The Nyinkka is also known as the ridge tailed goanna with a proper name of Varanus acanthus or Ackie for short.

It is one of the most popular lizards kept by lizard fansiers all around the world because of its size and hardiness.
